Local Water Matters – Taking Action: Protecting our Water
Guelph Greens LOCAL MATTERS Speaker Series

Learn from our panel about crucial and timely local water issues including micro-beads, micro- fibres and more.

We will discuss the challenges and explore some solutions for how we can protect our drinking water and care for our beautiful and bountiful waterways.


Emily De Sousa is an environmentalist, activist, and digital storyteller for climate change. She is a member of the Sustainability Week planning team and Coordinator for ‘Tap In’ – a campaign to end the sale of bottled water on campus.

Lauren Smith is a co-founder of PolyGone, a Velocity Science start-up working to capture microfibres, the predominant form of microplastics pollution.

Arlene Slocombe is the Executive Director of the Wellington Water Watchers and works to protect our waters and to change our relationship to it from one of commodity to one of beauty, respect and gratitude.

Special Guest: Jan Sherman will share a water ceremony and the significance of water to the Anishinaabe people.
